The table below details the color distribution for all 30,621 8ers produced between 1989 and 1999. Each column represents one of the models of the 8er line-up. The first column is added to obtain a fully comprehensive overview despite none of the 830´s making it into distribution.

A total of 122 different exterior colors has been extracted from the data sheets for 30,582 cars. 39 cars remain unknown where the data sheet does not record an exterior color. Amongst those are 21 out of 24 cars from the Rosslyn/South Africa pilot production plant.

The M70 range displays the largest number of individual exterior color types (79) - 95% of all M70´s (19,070) were delivered in a total of 12 colors nevertheless. 50 of the individual exterior colors can be found on less than 200 cars (1% of M70 production)

The extension of the available color range for certain markets to include many Individual colors is shown in the color distribution for the late model year 840 M62´s and 850 M73´s but also for the often highly individualized CSi. More than 45 special order colors can be found for each of the models despite their comparatively low production figures.
