Rare and beautiful . . . .

Effortless in design and function.

Ahead of its time when introduced in 1989, the E31 BMW 8 Series is currently enjoying a resurgence in global popularity after the last car was produced May 1999.

The E31 BMW 8 Series Registry's preservation mission is to  catalog, document and promote one of the pre-eminent sought-after collector cars from the late 20th century.

11.111 cars in the 8Coupe archives

18 months after passing the 10k cars milestone we are pleased to announce that the 8Coupe team has again added more than one thousand new 8ers to the archive which on this 11-11 coincidentally holds data for 11.111 8-series cars.

The 8Coupe archive has seen a significant increase in size by and large due to larger sized pictures taken all over the globe and now exceeds 50GB of data. Within the archive we now store 320.000 files of which 200.000 depict 8-series cars and more than 37.000 PDF files of sales ads and supplementing information.

...it appears that following the 25th anniversary in 2014 car collectors have started to smile at the 8-series and prices are finally on the way up.

Did you know... ?

The M8 - a singular 8er
Almost forgotten and its existence denied, climaxing in the rumour that it was destroyed long ago, the M8 magically appeared before the eyes of UK BMWCar journalists early in 2010 and was on display locally a few times in 2011. The M8 was built to race but the project eventually abandoned with the engine concept living on in the legendary McLaren F1.

It had another cameo appearance at the BMW CCA "Legends of the Autobahn" concours in Monterey, CA (USA) in August 2012.
According to the cheat sheet of an M-GmbH engineer the kerb weight of the M8 is 1492 kgs - whether this includes the driver and/or petrol is unknown but it goes to show that even the drastic weight saving measures applied for the M8 did not make the car a featherweight.

Some confusion exists regarding the material mix of this one off body shell. Most of the chassis was made from Aluminium alloys (riveted sheets) and only the rear quarters and boot stem from a standard 8-series body. Above is a diagram showing the material mix that can be found on the M8.
